The Inspiring Journey of
Winrose International Campus

Nestled in the cool hills between Beragala and Haputale, Sri Lanka, Winrose International Campus stands as a beacon of hope, a mission-driven, community-based organization committed to holistic youth development. Established in 2007 and registered under the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka, Winrose was born out of a deep desire to uplift the lives of underprivileged youths from the tea plantation communities—children who, for generations, have faced social exclusion and economic hardships.

A Legacy of Compassion and Vision

Winrose was named in honor of two extraordinary individuals: Godwin R. Samuel, a veteran social worker and mission catalyst, and Adeline Rose Jothy Malar, a former principal. Both devoted their lives to raising the education and social standards of the people in the hill country, and their tireless work inspired the founding of Winrose as the first standalone vocational training center in the region. Their daughter, R.J. Sathya Reka Godwin, carried forth this legacy, founding the institute with a singular vision—to give hope to children who, like her, were born and raised in the tea plantations.

What began as a modest dream to teach English to plantation youth has grown into a transformative mission. Over the past 18 years, Winrose has guided over 1,600 students, equipping them with vocational skills, education, and the self-confidence to break free from the shackles of poverty and marginalization.

Empowering Dreams, Transforming Lives

Today, Winrose offers regular classes in English, ICT, and Hospitality Management from Monday to Friday, helping students gain the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a global society. We prepare them for successful careers in industries that were once out of reach, and, most importantly, we give them the tools to dream bigger.

Our students have gone on to earn diplomas and degrees at reputable institutions, secure jobs in star-class hotels, and some have even returned to Winrose to help guide the next generation of students. These young people, who once had no hope of escaping the tea plantations, are now pursuing careers they never thought possible.

Through partnerships, education, and networking, Winrose has provided job opportunities for hundreds of tea plantation youth, giving them not just a livelihood but a sense of purpose. Our mission has always been more than just providing skills—it’s about restoring dignity, inspiring hope, and transforming lives.

The Road Ahead

The journey hasn’t been easy. We’ve faced numerous challenges, from operating with limited resources to relying on the goodwill of donors and supporters. We’ve moved locations, adjusted to changes, and adapted to whatever obstacles came our way. But through it all, our mission has remained unwavering: to uplift the youth of the hill country, to provide them with the education they deserve, and to give them the chance to rewrite their stories.

At Winrose, we believe that every student is a resource, a beacon of potential waiting to be unleashed. And as long as we continue to believe in the power of education, mentorship, and compassion, we will continue to change lives for the better.

Winrose is more than just a vocational training center—it’s a community, a family, and a place where hope lives. We are proud of our journey, and we invite you to join us as we continue to empower the next generation of leaders from Sri Lanka’s tea plantation communities.

Together, we are changing a generation through education.

Mission

Our mission is to provide comprehensive education and vocational training to underprivileged youth in Sri Lanka’s hill country, equipping them with essential skills in English, ICT, and specific trades that are vital to the nation’s economic development. We are committed to fostering personal growth through a holistic approach that promotes mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, financial, and social well-being. By cultivating a culture of compassion, humanity, and responsibility, we empower these youth to become ambassadors of positive change, dedicated to uplifting their communities while preserving the natural world for future generations.

Vision

We envision a future where underprivileged youth from Sri Lanka’s hill country become the cornerstone of the nation's prosperity, and to be the ambassadors of love, compassion, and humanity who will not only elevate their own lives and their communities but will also protect and preserve the rich tapestry of life and resources the universe has bestowed upon us. With integrity at their core, they are poised to lead and inspire generations to come.
